Fishers, Ind. – After a slow start and several lead changes, Circle City Derby Girls’ Socialites overcame Vette City Roller Derby’s Vixens in front of CCDG’s home crowd at The Forum in Fishers, Indiana. Fans leapt to their feet cheering during a nail-biting final jam that clinched a 169-168 win for the Socialites.

After five low-scoring jams that kept the two teams neck-and-neck, Vette City scored 9 points and pulled ahead with a 15-point lead. By the 13th jam of the night, the Vixens led by 50 points, but that lead was suddenly cut in half by a 25-point jam from Circle City’s Wicked Baum-Chele. Socialite Vivi Section then added 20 points on the board, bringing the home team within 5 points of the Vixens. The ladies in green led by 2 points by the end of the 20th jam, but four lead changes in the first half left Vette City up by 7 points at halftime.

The Socialites and Vixens traded lead four more times in the second half, although Circle City maintained a solid lead for 18 of the 23 jams in the second period. Blockers for the Socialites helped maintain this advantage by building solid walls that made it difficult for Vette City jammers to score for much of the second half. Devil Woman and Nova Blaze showcased their tenacious positional blocking to hold back Vette City’s jammers, while Shock Hop and Spleana Rupture pounded on them with vicious hits. Beattie Sedgwick came to Circle City’s jammers’ aid on more than one occasion with powerful shoulder hits to Vette City’s blockers, and birthday girl Trudy Bauchery’s powerful hits made it a rough night for the Vixens’ jammers.

Ultimately, it was Circle City’s strategic playing that allowed them to dominate Vette City, and it literally came down to the last seconds of the bout. Vette City started the final jam of the night with a 5-point lead and on a power jam with Socialites jammer Cassie Khaos in the penalty box. Circle City sent Wicked Baum-Chele to the track as pivot, backed by heavy-hitting blockers Beattie Sedgwick, Cherry Slapstick, and Ionic Bondage. After returning to the track from the penalty box, Cassie Khaos passed the star to Baum-Chele, who proceeded to score 15 points to Vette City’s 7. The last points that brought Circle City the win were scored just before the jam clock expired, with anxious fans on their feet, intensely watching as Wicked Baum-Chele exploded past two Vette City blockers.

The win over Vette City gives the Socialites a 3-1 record for their fifth season. They travel to northern Indiana next where they face off against the South Bend Roller Girls on May 11.
